Field Application Engineer (EMEA)

An exciting opportunity has arisen within IAR to work with our world-leading security products. We are looking for a flexible, ambitious, execution-focused team player to join us as a Field Application Engineer (EMEA). This opening will specifically suit someone experienced with developing embedded software using microcontroller devices at a “bare metal” level where performance and memory constraints are essential to ensure product success. Expect your skills and knowledge of processor boot up, kernels, low-level operating systems, embedded security, and IOT security to be enhanced in this role.

Job Description

We are looking for an application engineer to take responsibility for technical activities for customers & partners across EMEA. In this role you will be responsible for introducing our technology’s value to potential customers as well as providing high quality pre and post sales technical support to new and existing customers.

As a technical leader within the embedded security commercial team your duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Customer orientated Field Application Engineering support of our Security Products
    • Gaining a full understanding of the existing product offering.
    • Support of regional sales team
    • Tailoring of technical marketing materials for potential customer opportunities
    • Technical engagements with engineering development teams
    • Standard and customised product demonstration to both customers and partners.
    • Identification and engagement with the IAR development teams of potential future technical requirements, activities and defects.
  • Post sales Technical Support of Security Products
    • Support the customer training and use of our Security products using both IAR and third party tool chains.
    • Development of security implementations & protection profiles to enable customers to start using the product rapidly.
    • Resolution of specific security requirements from high assurance to pragmatic implementations based on time-to-market, implementation cost, and device impact
    • Secure supply chain programming & provisioning
  • Communication and support with global commercial team
  • Creation of technical marketing and training material
  • Delivery of technical seminars, webinars & training
  • Enablement of programming and provisioning partners

You will be working with other commercial and technical team members, global tier-1 silicon partners, and a wide array of Fortune 500 technology companies. This role will require a combination of technical expertise and emotional intelligence to assist our customers in developing solutions which work on a range of devices with advanced technologies alongside our global silicon vendor partners. Post pandemic there is expected to be travel within the EMEA region to visit customer opportunities and liaise with team members in Sweden and elsewhere.

Location: Although desirable that you are based in Cambridge, it is more important that you are able to travel within Europe and the UK, and spend time face to face with the Security Development team in Cambridge to understand the products.

Required Skills

  • Degree in a relevant area such as Software Engineering, Computer Science or Electronic Engineering.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and work to tight deadlines or under pressure
  • Display initiative and problem-solving ability
  • Excellent presentation skills.
  • Experience embedded systems development at a “bare metal” level primarily within C/C++
  • Experience in using a variety of microcontrollers, such as those based on Arm Cortex-M, RISC-V architectures, or Renesas RX devices.
  • The ability to digest low-level device data sheets for software operation on high performance data engines and secure enclaves
  • The ability to communicate design concepts to peers, senior management and customers through design documents, user guides and application notes.
  • Curiosity, Inquisitiveness and drive to learn new skills and techniques in the development of embedded systems.  

Desired Skills

  • Experience in developing, testing, and porting software that implements system boot and initialisation.
  • Experience in bringing embedded systems to volume production.
  • Some basic understanding of embedded security and IoT security principles
  • Securing of debug and application domains within embedded systems.
  • Experience of writing embedded applications implemented around an RTOS / kernels.
  • Experience of developing and improving processes to lift the productivity and robustness of embedded development.
  • Experience of low-level assembly languages
  • To have designed microcontroller-based hardware including potentially schematic and PCB capture.

Experience

5+ years prior experience in software, electronics, or technology industry.

Knowledge of companies developing embedded systems (e.g. IoT, IIoT, M2M)

Experience embedded systems development at a “bare metal” level.

Experience in using a variety of microcontrollers, such as those based on Arm Cortex-M, RISC-V architectures, or Renesas RX devices.

Experience in developing, testing, and porting software that implements system boot and initialisation.

Ability to digest low-level device data sheets for software operation on high performance data engines and secure enclaves

Awareness of the impact of security in the IoT embedded systems market

Proven track record in technological support of security products, software, or systems

Knowledge of semiconductor industry and ecosystem

Knowledge of communication industry and ecosystem

Tools Experience

Experience in IAR Embedded Workbench IDE, or equivalent.

MS Office tools, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel specifically.
