Product Management / Product Owner - Senior Manager

An exciting opportunity has arisen to become the most senior product manager working within Secure Thingz, the IAR Embedded Security Solutions business (ESS). This role includes working with senior stakeholders within the business to define the product roadmap; to translate high-level concepts into specifications which engineers will use to develop the products; to own the product ownership mandate to guide development; and to produce the necessary technical collateral to support sales, distribution and customers.

The role includes the management of other Product Owners, either as direct reports or drawn from other teams) and technical authors. The role also includes strong liaison with the Corporate Marketing department to support and resolve “go to market” requirements, to promote the products, and to liaise with other IAR Product Managers to align on processes and roadmaps.

While a significant portion of the role is liaison and management, the core focus of the role is the production and review of Product Owner deliverables especially roadmaps, requirements specifications, user guides, educational material and product feature demonstrations).

 Job Responsibilities

As the Product Management / Product Owner - Senior Manager, your duties will include but are not limited to:

Leadership:

  • To ensure that the functions of the product management / product owner team member(s) are efficiently and effectively executed. This includes working with the Project Management function to ensure the deliverables are clearly identified and tracked.
  • To perform the line management of the team - including conducting staff evaluations, setting objectives to meet company and individual development needs, supporting their development and management of nonperformance.
  • To identify the future capacity needs of the immediate team, plus propose & justify growth of the team.
  • To perform the recruitment & onboarding of the direct team and to help with the recruitment / onboarding of the wider team.

Product Knowledge / Subject Matter Expert:

  • To become an expert in how the products work and how they collectively fulfill the security “solution” offering of the company.
  • To be prepared to demonstrate the products to potential partners & customers.
  • To provide feedback to the engineering team on prototypes and concepts.
  • To identify challenges with existing solutions and evolve remediations to address any gaps.

Product Roadmaps:

  • ·        Working with the head of corporate strategy and the General Manager (ESS) to evolve and enhance mid and long-term strategy.
  • ·        To actively seek and collate feedback from customers, partners, distributors to improve products and the complete system offering.
  • To communicate with global sales & technical support functions to assist in the education of the teams, and identify additional material required to support opportunities, or capture requirements.
  • To understand and communicate the offerings from existing and potential competitors.
  • To identify new revenue opportunities in core and adjacent markets. 
  • To develop requests for changes to product roadmaps and to ensure business cases are developed for all items on the roadmap.
  • To prepare material to communicate the roadmap.
  • To work with the global IAR Product Management Team to identify opportunities to better align roadmaps to maximize market impact.

Product Development:

  • Ensuring market requirements are captured and translated into technical product requirements, supporting rapid consumption by engineering.
  • To ensure deliverables for a product are identified and prioritized across the wider organization. This includes core products plus technical materials such as user guides, application notes, internal, training material, release material and the infrastructure required to deliver the products to customers and collect revenue. 
  • To provide feedback to Engineering on solution proposals, ad-hoc questions regarding developments, and feature tradeoffs.
  • A “hands on” attitude including the preparation of some customer orientated materials.

Process & Policy:

  • To ensure correct policies and procedures are utilized and evolved where necessary.
  • To own the process improvement plan for Product Management and drive business driven improvements based on feedback gained from ad-hoc comments or formal retrospectives.
  • To work across the wider product management team to harmonize processes and procedures.

Export Controls:

  • Ensure that products meet relevant export regulations.

 

External Orientated Duties:

As well as working closely with the GM-ESS, Chief Strategy Officer and IAR PdM team the candidate is also expected to work closely with the following functions:

  • IAR Systems Marketing Department. Specifically, to support the promotion of product functionality, including the preparation of technical marketing material (e.g. white papers, videos, material for website, etc.).
  • Critical partner activities across partnerships including silicon vendors, production partners, cloud partners, and others.
  • Support of sales and FAEs to secure design wins and maintain customer relationships.
  • Liaisons with Customer Success functions to ensure customer issues are handled effectively in a timely manner.

Note that occasional travel may be required to perform a number of the external facing duties

Masters in Product Management/Business Administration/Marketing or equivalent qualification or experience.

Experience

10+ years prior experience in product management in a technical industry.

Understand the relevance of micro-controllers and the embedded systems market

Proven track record in product planning

Defining and launching successful products

Demonstrable leadership experience

Experience managing budgets

Knowledge of semi-conductor companies and silicon vendors

Comfortable developing sales and marketing collateral e.g. presentations, white papers etc.

Knowledge of IoT and Security marketplace

Significant brand experience including the development of brand strategies, ability to define and make relative to potential customers, in a way that resonates with the development team.

Familiar with Patents and Intellectual Property.

 

Tools Experience

MS Office tools, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel specifically.

Knowledge of product management tools

Experience of using JIRA, Confluence, and other Engineering platforms.
