Product Manager

In this important role, you will work senior members of the management team, overall business teams and Engineering to drive the delivery of the product roadmap and influence the product strategy.

Working across the organisation, you will oversee the management of the product portfolio throughout the complete product lifecycle:

  • Gather and prioritize features according to business needs, partner requirements and customer feedback
  • To develop the business justification for individual features and initiatives.
  • To work closely with the Engineering team to enable rapid development through to successful release. This will including producing detailed technical feature requirements, and clarification of priorities, approving release compliance, and giving feedback on deliverables at all stages
  • Ensuring successful release into the marketplace including the development and co-ordination of user information and market collateral.
  • Adopt and evolve existing processes and policies to further enhance our focus on quality and security.

This role influences and contributes broadly to every aspect of the business and is critical to the success of the organisation.    

Job Responsibilities

Product Manager duties will include, but may not be limited to Product Development:

  • Drive delivery of the product roadmap, ensuring that it always accurately reflects the needs of the business, reacting quickly to changes in the market conditions
  • Participate in the overall product strategy to ensure future business success
  • Actively manage products through the Secure Thingz phase-gate lifecycle management process from Concept through to Market Release
  • Work alongside System Architects to elaborate requirements so that these are well understood and can be turned into deliverable designs
  • Contribute to the development of Intellectual Property (IP) and understand the importance and relevance of patents to the business
  • Synchronize with Project Managers to ensure that product delivery remains on track
  • Attend and contribute to project reviews and sprint demos, approve product releases
  • Collaborate with the Sales organisation to ensure that products are matched to customer requirements, processing feedback where necessary to adapt the roadmap
  • Ensure that product entering the market fits the company strategy to meet business goals
  • Be the “voice of the customer” with the Engineering team during product development so that requirements are clearly defined and understood, and negotiated trade-offs made
  • Ensure that all internal stakeholders are kept appraised of progress and work to remove blockers that might affect product delivery
  • Liaise, train and coordinate closely with the FAE team to ensure market success throughout the product lifecycle, ensuring customer feedback is understood and acted upon
  • Be able to contribute to product process improvement initiatives

Requirements and Market Analysis

  • Build and justify the business case for new features and products as part of our phase-gate process, including business and delivery models
  • Synthesize use cases from multiple sources to derive a prioritized, defensible view of market needs
  • Prepare and maintain Marketing Requirement Documents that capture the market need for features to be added to the product
  • Monitor and capture the activities of competitors, the marketplace and emerging technologies to determine opportunities for, and threats to, the products.

External Facing Responsibilities

  • Engage with Sales and Business Development functions to understand and capture customer and partner use cases for the product
  • Ensure that all external stakeholders are kept appraised of progress and work to remove blockers that might affect product delivery
  • Support Sales and Business functions with customer meetings which may be by phone, video call or in person at locations around the world
  • Plan and manage the Product Launch activities across the business for each Market Release to ensure that a complete product is delivered
  • Prepare marketing collateral e.g. presentations and white papers etc., that effectively communicate the features and benefits of the product
  • Attend industry events to promote products to customers, demonstrating them where appropriate.
  • Support the Marketing Communications team in the creation and maintenance of product marketing collateral
  • Evaluate the market and competitors, which may include conference presentations, at locations around the world and when at industry events.

Note that occasional travel may be required (when conditions allow) to perform a number of the external facing duties

Skills Requirement






Degree or above in a related engineering discipline or equivalent qualification.


5+ Years of Product Management experience in a technical industry, particularly in bringing IoT products to market

Awareness of microcontroller-based designs and the embedded systems development process

Experience with organising product releases and launches

Familiar with building consensus for the product feature set

Experience with phase-gate life cycle

Strong ability to manage multiple competing demands

Knowledge of the product delivery supply chain from OEM to end customer

Experience providing workable solutions taken from conflicting market and business requirements

Knowledge of IoT and Security principles

Familiar with the Patent process and managing Intellectual Property.

Comfortable developing sales and marketing collateral e.g. presentations, white papers etc.

Tools Experience

MS Office tools - Word, PowerPoint and Excel specifically.

Knowledge of product and development management tools e.g. Aha! and Jira


Excellent communication skills are required as you will be working at all levels within Secure Thingz as well as with customers and partners.

Excellent time management

Willingness to travel worldwide (when conditions allow) to support Sales and Marketing activities.
