Senior System Architect

Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen at Secure Thingz to join the Architecture team as a Senior System Architect. We are looking for a flexible, ambitious and deadline focused team player to join to help deliver on our technical solutions.

You will be devising and generating detailed architecture design across Secure Thingz products and influencing its lead customers/partners, whether internal or external.

Our products deliver high-grade “Root of Trust” security into IoT edge nodes, enabling management over the lifecycle of the devices, protecting investment and ensuring that enterprise management of complex IoT systems can be maintained. The products include:

  • PC tools which are used by software development organisations (the OEM) to define the security attributes of their product and enable the integration of these within embedded IOT products.
  • Embedded Software running on MCUs and MPUs to ensure its integrity and use the security information defined by the OEM when the final product is operating.
  • PC tools which integrate with volume production systems to configure security within the final product.

The role offers further growth opportunities to both mentor and develop the skills of a number of technical specialists as well as working with senior management to influence the company strategy and roadmaps.


  • To work with the Chief Systems Architect to help define the detailed architecture of both current and proposed products and solutions, and support Engineers with the implementation.
  • To run initial evaluation of concepts to support roadmap production.
  • To ensure all the products in development are aligned with the architecture strategy and with each other to offer a consistent user experience.
  • To work with Product Management, Architects, Specialists, and the main development engineering teams to:
    • Develop market-level requirements into detailed implementable requirements.
    • Ensure the architecture is defined to enable implementation (including defining component mission statements, component interactions and detailed interface specifications).
    • Resolve technical issues found during main development and when the products are being commissioned in operation.

Required Skills

  • Degree in a relevant area such as Computer Science or Electronic Engineering or equivalent industry experience.
  • 5+ years current experience in a Senior / Principal Software or Systems role developing, documenting, and communicating system architectures using UML or similar concepts.
  • Proven ability to balance technical excellence with commercial / business pressures.
  • Ability to communicate technical issues at all levels of an organisation from senior management to software engineers and to critical customers.
  • Demonstrable experience of on-time delivery of quality systems
  • Proven ability to balance the need for collaboration vs drive to deliver.
  • Ability to become hands on to debug and resolve integration issues if required.
  • Previous background experience in a SW development role involving both embedded and PC based software.
  • Knowledge of microcontroller / microprocessor architectures (ARM Cortex, etc).
  • Ability to deliver continuous process improvements.
  • Ability to handle and prioritising conflicting demands from multiple sources.

Desired Skills

  • Knowledge of software systems security and cryptography is helpful, but not mandatory
  • Software implementation in C, C#, Python.
  • Use of Jira and project planning tools.
  • Working in an Agile environment.
